Obituary of Nicholas Losito

Mr. Nicholas A. Losito Sr., age 81, of 596 Pine Ave., Herkimer, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2002, at Little Falls Hospital. He was born on July 28, 1921, in Herkimer, son of the late Vito and Mary Louise (Teso) Losito and received his education in Herkimer schools. Nick was a World War II and Korean War veteran, having served our country with the Army Air Corps during World War II and having been a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon relief from active duty he held the rank of sergeant. Nick was united in marriage with the former Lucy Macri on November 7, 1953, at St. Anthony's Church in Herkimer with Father Ubano officiating. He had at one time worked with Standard Desk and was last employed with Remington Arms for 10 years. He was a communicant of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph and was a member of the Tony R. George Post in Herkimer, the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post, the St. Anthony Crusaders the Fort Dayton Fire Department, the Standard Desk union and past president of the carpenters and joiners union. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy; his children, Nicholas A. Losito Jr. and wife Maureen T. of Lumberton, NJ, Anthony D. Losito of Saratoga Springs and Donna Losito of Marcy, and Mary Conklin and husband Gary of Mohawk; cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Conklin, Alyse Losito, Megan Losito, Nicholas J. Losito and Andrew Conklin; brothers, Rocco Losito and wife Josephine of Herkimer and Vito Losito and wife Mary of Herkimer; sisters, Mary Muto of Herkimer and Lucy Carbone and husband Richard of Herkimer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and in-laws, Rita Varano and husband Fran of Herkimer, Clara Potenza of Frankfort, Frances Talarico of Broadalbin, Anna and George Smith of Liverpool, Marilyn Macri of Herkimer, Catherine Parisi of Nevada, Elizabeth Bonilla of Herkimer and Mary Petraca of Amsterdam. He was predeceased in death by his sisters, Catherine Cushman and husband Sandy, Ruth Cuccharia and husband Rocco; brother-in-law, Frank Mutto and his son Frank Jr.; a niece, Roxanne Cuccharia; father and mother-in-law, Antonio and Teresa Macri; brothers-in-law, Nicholas A. Macri, Anthony (Sonny) and wife Evelyn Macri, Peter J. Macri, James and Carmella Furlong and nephew Jimmy Furlong; Anthony Parisi, brother-in-law; Anthony Bonilla, brother-in-law; Michael and Antoinette Costello, brother and sister-n-law; and brother-in-law, Anthony Potenza. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street, Herkimer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Robert Shinos, pastor. Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours at the church are Friday morning from 8:30 until the time of the service. Members of the Herkimer VFW may gather at 8:45 a.m. at the church to pay their respects. Those wishing are asked to consider donations to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Luke Handy and the ICU and respiratory staff of Little Falls Hospital for the dignity and respect shown towards Nick. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer.
