Obituary of Werner Buchmeier

HERKIMER - Mr. Werner Buchmeier, age 88, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Thursday morning, May 18, 2023, in Newburgh, NY, with family by his side. Born in January 1935, Werner was the son of the late Eugene and Mina Buchmeier. He was born in Ebersbach, Germany. He came with his family to America in 1951 and honorably served in the National Guard at Fort Drum, NY. In June of 1958, Werner was wed to his sweetheart, Mary Rei Buchmeier and together they shared almost 60 years in a loving and devoted union. Werner was employed with Library Bureau, in Herkimer, working for many years as a Manager in Contract Sales. He was a respected employee, ensuring he could provide a comfortable life for his adored wife and children. Throughout the years, he enjoyed spending time with his wife. Together they traveled worldwide, joyously making memories. In his later years, he would enjoy woodworking, baking and building model gliders. Though he was a quiet man, he enjoyed playing practical jokes on his family and close friends to make you laugh. He always made sure to call up his loved ones to hear about their days and offer words of encouragement and advice. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, whether it was just watching golf or a TV show together or woodworking in his garage workshop on various projects for his children and grandchildren. He would always know how to put a smile on your face. Survivors include his daughter, sons, son-in-law, and daughters-in-law: Linda and Louie Catalusci, of Newburgh, NY, Michael and Linda Buchmeier, of Clemmons, NC and Gary and Colleen Buchmeier, of Osprey, FL; His grandchildren, Alicia Catalusci, Bobby Catalusci, Nicholas Buchmeier, Andrew Buchmeier, Ryan Buchmeier, Sophie Buchmeier and Anna Buchmeier; his brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Dorothy Buchmeier, of Nevada; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Julia Fifield, of Herkimer.
