Obituary of Mary Hoffmeister
Mrs. Mary Lavinia Hoffmeister, age 91, a longtime Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Alpine Rehab & Nursing Center in Little Falls, where she has been a resident these past few months.
Born in Virginia on August 13, 1931, Mary was the daughter of the late William and Lavinia (Danson) Dawson. She attended Ilion schools and on Mary 29, 1948, she was wed to Mr. Charles V. Hoffmeister in Ilion, NY. Together, Charles and Mary spent over fifty-two years of marriage. Mr. Hoffmeister passed away on August 20, 2000.
For many years, Mary was employed by various restaurants throughout the Mohawk Valley. She would be most remembered by the customers of the former TP Drive-In Herkimer where she cooked and worked for many years. She was even notorious for her ability to re-create the famous Mexican recipe which she treated many family, friends and neighbors to throughout the years!
Mary’s life revolved around her family and she was the consummate wife, mother and grandmother. She could often be found in the kitchen, cooking and baking and nothing gave her greater joy than gathering her family around a table.
She is survived by her sons, Victor T. Hoffmeister and his wife, Janice, of Annapolis, MD, and Steven D. Hoffmeister and his girlfriend, Karen Wooden, of Frankfort; her three granddaughters, Holly Hoffmeister, Amanda Cruikshank and Nicole Hartford; her three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Charles, Gabriel and Vivienne Mary; her two surviving brothers, Patrick Dawson and Frank Dawson; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, neighbors and friends. Aside from her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services at this time. Her earthly remains will be laid to rest with her husband at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer in the springtime.
The Hoffmeister family has entrusted the care of their beloved mother and grandmother to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com
