Obituary of Martin J. Nicolette

Martin J. “Marty” Nicolette, age 63, passed away on February 20, 2023, peacefully into the arms of our Lord after his courageous fight with cancer. Born on June 19, 1959, Martin was the son of the late Salvatore and Annabelle Nicolette. He was raised and educated in Ilion, graduating from Ilion High School with the Class of 1977. He went on to continue his education at HCCC and SUNY Tech at Utica-Rome. He also proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy. The latter years of Marty’s career was spent with Turning Stone Casino where he held the title of Mechanical Systems Technician for sixteen years, retiring in July of 2022. Upon his retirement, he moved to Oklahoma where he enjoyed some time in the last months of his life. His number one passion in life, however, was always music and he could play any instrument he set his mind to. He was especially skilled on the drums, playing with local bands throughout the years, most recently with Rhythm & Muse and the group, Home Brew, which was based out of Chittenango. Marty wore his heart on his sleeve and was always available to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his girlfriend, Jean Travaglini Garro ; his former wife of twenty-one years and good friend, Mary Buckley; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and JoAnn Nicolette, James Nicolette and Debbie Reed, Douglas and Lori Nicolette; his sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Perez and Jean and Walter Scram; his girlfriend’s daughter, Anna Garro; along with several special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, godchildren and friends; and of course, his feline companion, Stella. He was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, Edward and Edna Buckley; and his brothers-in-law, Michael Perez and Gene Dufresne. In keeping with Marty’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer at a date and time to be decided. Online notes of sympathy for the Nicolette family may be made at www.eneafamily.com. Local arrangements entrusted to the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home.
