Obituary of Nancy J. Spina

FRANKFORT – Mrs. Nancy Jean (Sylvester) Spina, age 82, passed away peacefully, early Wednesday morning, October 5, 2022, in the privacy and comfort of her home. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by the love of her family and her husband, John, who gave her unparalleled and exceptional care and never left her side. Born on October 10, 1939, Nancy was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Domina) Sylvester. She was raised and educated in Frankfort and upon her graduation furthered her education at the Utica School of Commerce. On June 9, 1962, Nancy was married to John F. Spina at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort. The two were sweethearts since kindergarten and throughout their sixty-year marriage were inseparable. They held a constant and unwavering bond and always remained steadfast through both the good times and bad. Nancy’s working years were spent in the business office at Faxton Hospital in Utica. Her utmost priority, however, was always the well-being of her husband, children and grandchildren. She was selfless and giving and her love knew no bounds; everything she did was always with the needs of others in her heart. Throughout the years, Nancy was known as the hostess of her neighborhood and was always very involved in the lives of her children as everyone’s “classroom mom.” Her home was always full of love and her kindness knew no limits; she never uttered a poor word or spoke harshly about anyone. She always made sure that her husband and children had a home cooked meal on the table at night and she absolutely lived for family gatherings and holidays. Nothing gave Nancy greater joy than when her children and grandchildren were all together in her home. She loved to go shopping and anyone who knew her knew that when it came to a purchase for something she loved…price simply did not matter! She enjoyed summer gatherings out by her pool and of course, was always cooking something to go along with the festivities. She and her husband were longtime parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church. Nancy’s greatest accomplishment was the family that she and John created, together and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She is survived by her beloved husband, John; her six children, Lori and Mike Schultz of Bradenton, FL, Linda and John Kulesa of Valrico, FL, John “Bub” and Karla Spina of Frankfort, Jane and Jake Haas of Lake Nona, FL, Mike and Sherri Spina of Frankfort and Michele and Sean Lizama of South Riding, VA; her brother and sister-in-law, George and Phyllis Sylvester of Manchester, NH; her in-laws, Anthony and Janet Spina of Deerfield; her grandchildren, Brent Schultz, Skyler Kulesa and fiancé, Taylor Church, Trista Kulesa, John Spina, Nicholas and Amanda Spina, Andrew Spina, Jordan Haas and fiancé, Isaiah Jackson, Jensen Haas, Michelangelo Spina, Levi Spina, Jagger Spina, Luca Lizama and Cameron Lizama; and her two great-grandchildren, Anna Grace and Asa Spina. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. A special thank you is extended to Hospice and Palliative Care for the amazing compassion shown to Nancy and her family, with special mention of Nancy’s friend and angel, Tina Yelle. We are forever grateful from the bottom of our hearts for the genuine love shown to our wife, mother and grandmother throughout the final part of her life’s journey. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Nancy’s funeral service which will commence on her 83rd birthday, Monday morning, October 10, 2022, at 10:30AM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev.
