Obituary of Joseph A. Swienton

Mr. Joseph A. “Joe” Swienton, age 87, a longtime resident of Brockway Road in Frankfort, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 10, 2022, with his loving wife, Ilene, by his side. Born in Utica on November 16, 1934, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph G. and Sophie A. (Roback) Swienton. He attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School and was a graduate from Proctor High School with the Class of 1953. On May 3, 1958, Joe was wed to the former Ilene McCullen and together they shared in a loving and blessed union of over 64 years. They were a united couple who not only shared common interests and hobbies but were dedicated to the well being of their family and their home. Joe was a very hardworking man and for over 40 years was employed with GE Aerospace as an Engineering Draftsman, a position from which he retired. At home, he reflected those same qualities of diligence and industriousness, and there was literally nothing he could not fix! In his free time, Joe enjoyed hunting on his land with his many friends and golfing with his wife and friends. For the last twenty years, Joe and Ilene especially enjoyed their winters in Lake Worth, Florida. A man of integrity and honor, Joe will be truly missed by those he leaves behind and his legacy will live on through his growing family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ilene; his sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph H. Swienton and Jen Grower of Frankfort, Marc and Cheryl Swienton of Lake Wylie, SC and Michael and Melissa Swienton of Norwood, NY; his grandchildren, Rob and Heather Borden, Christopher and Julie Swienton, Kristin and Scott Nelson, Joseph R. Swienton, James M. Swienton, Michael Z. Swienton and Samantha and Jake Cardinale; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and the many special friends who were a wonderful support system throughout the years. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Helen Czerw, Edward Swienton and Rudy Swienton. A special thank you is extended to the nurses and staff at Foltsbrook as well as at St. Luke’s Hospital, for the kindness and compassion shown to Joe and his family throughout these last weeks. A heartfelt “THANK YOU” to our many friends for their kindness and support throughout this journey…we love you all! In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no formal calling hours or services. His family will gather privately at a later date to celebrate and commemorate his life.. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital OR to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
