Obituary of Richard Joseph Bono

FRANKFORT - It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Richard Joseph Bono,73, of Liverpool, NY, on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022, which occurred in Syracuse, New York. Rick was born in Ilion, NY on April 19th, 1949, the son of the late Santo “Sandy” Bono and Florence “Flo” Palumbo. On December 14, 1974, he married Grace M. Halpin, in Rochester, NY. Rick retired from Crouse-Hindes, were he worked as a systems analyst. Rick is survived by his wife, Grace; his son, Andrew; his brother, Robert (Patricia); his sister, Lisa Tompkins (Steve); sister-in-law, Pat Halpin (James Goodbow); brother-in-law, Jack (Eve); many loving nieces and nephews; as well as a large extended family. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Sandy and Flo Bono; and his best friend Andy “Jinx” Jankowiak. Rick was a standout wrestler for Frankfort-Schuyler wrestling team where he won many individual championships and helping his team capture many tournament titles. Rick was undefeated in dual meets his Sophomore and Junior years. He was also a member of the Frankfort Starlighters Drum and Bugle Corp. Rick was an avid poker player, golfer and fisherman. He most cherished his cross - country trip with life - long friend Mario Pumilio. Beef, Joe, Charlie, Mike and Rick were always the favorites to win the $20.00 atop the grease pole at the Adolorata Society Festival each year. Friends and Family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Saints Anthony and Joseph Catholic Church, on South Main Street, in Herkimer. A celebration of life well lived will take place immediately after Mass, at the parish hall, across the street. It is the wish of the family that memorial contributions in honor of Rick be considered to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and envelopes will be provided at the church on the day of the service and at any time may be obtained from the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home. Rick’s funeral arrangements have been coordinated with his lifelong friend, Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, in Ilion, New York (Town of Frankfort) @ 315-894-8000.
