Obituary of Barbara Bluett

ILION – Mrs. Barbara Bluett, age 89, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, August 3, 2022, at the MVHS St. Luke’s Campus. Born on February 21, 1933, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph and Fanny (Frost) Allen. She was raised and educated locally and graduated from Ilion High School. On May 10, 1952, Barbara was wed to Alvin Bluett in the Ilion Baptist Church and together they shared in a blessed and devoted union of over 55 years, until Alvin’s passing on December 11, 2007. Barbara missed Alvin terribly these last fifteen years, and her family takes comfort in knowing the two are now reunited in Heaven. For many years, Barbara was employed in the Education Department at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome as a secretary. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Ilion as well as a former member of the Triangle. In earlier years, Barbara loved to square dance with her husband, Alvin. After retirement, the two spent their winters in Florida and even after Alvin’s passing, Barb continued that tradition with her friend, Judy. Barb’s first and foremost priority was always the well being of her family and her presence will be dearly missed. She is survived by her three sons, Lynn Bluett and wife, Denise, of Rochester, NY, Kevin Bluett and fiancé, Susan Stellingwerf, of Edinburg, NY, and David Bluett and wife, Maureen, of Lockport, NY; her daughter, Catherine Slowik and husband, Edward, of Ilion; her seven grandchildren, Kevin Jay Bluett, Jr., Heather and Steven Goerlich, Gretchen and Patrick Spencer, Christopher and Summer Bluett, Jennifer and Zach Taylor, Andrew and Rebecca Slowik and Sarah Slowik; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emma Goerlich, Ian, Joseph and Henry Spencer, Carter Bluett, Penelope Taylor and Zoey, Aurora and Andrew, Jr. Slowik. She also leaves her brother, Tom Allen of Tennessee; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, husband and brother, Fred Allen. A special thank you is extended to all who helped with Barbara’s care in her later years, especially Terry and Bonnie Leone, Melissa Glova, Rachel Vickerson and Lynne Marhaver. The family is also appreciative to the healthcare team at St. Luke’s Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Barb throughout her last days. At Barbara’s request, there will be no formal funeral services at this time. A Celebration of Life and interment service will take place later this fall at a date and time to be announced. Barb’s final wishes were pre-arranged and entrusted to the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West Street, Ilion, NY (315) 895-7722, Don Applegate, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.
