Obituary of Henry A. Zuccaro

LITTLE FALLS - Henry A. Zuccaro, a well-known Little Falls resident and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, in St. Petersburg, Florida, surrounded by his wife, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter by his side. Henry was born in Little Falls, NY, on December 4th, 1932, to Henry and Rose Zuccaro. He graduated from Little Falls High School, class of 1950. Upon graduation Henry enlisted in the U.S Navy, on March 13, 1951, in Albany, NY. He spent basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He then went to basic submarine school in New London, CT, followed by Fire Control Technician’s School. He was a Third-Class Fire Control Technician on the aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42), followed by almost 2 years on submarines at Naval Submarine Station Key West, FL. He earned the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Navy Occupation Medal (European) and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, Henry received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta. He later completed his certification to become a guidance counselor. Henry began his teaching career in the St. Johnsville School District and then taught sixth grade in Little Falls for 19 years before becoming the junior high counselor and head guidance counselor for Little Falls Jr. Sr. High School, retiring in 1994. Henry coached junior high basketball and varsity bowling. Henry was also an active member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA-PBL) professional division. Henry was instrumental in coaching Little Falls FBLA members in debate, public speaking, and interview techniques, many of which earned state and national titles. Henry loved to travel with FBLA members to many state and national conferences and competitions. Throughout his career in education, Henry was a counselor, chaperone and cheerleader for many Little Falls students. Henry was an active member of the Little Falls Teachers Association, member of New York State United Teachers Association and the American Legion. Henry served on the Little Falls Board of Education for two terms. All aspects of education were Henry’s passion. Henry is predeceased by his parents; as well as his sister, Rose Marie Peruzzi; and brother-in-law, Alvaro Peruzzi. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Leslie; his children, Mark Zuccaro, of Herkimer, NY, Kim Glenn (son-in-law, retired Rear Admiral, David Glenn); his grandchildren, Emily Cleary (Andrew), of Needham, MA, Dr. Erica Renfree (Josiah), of San Diego, CA and Adam Glenn (Stephanie), of Wareham, MA. Henry also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Coby, Noah, Milo, Andrew, Claiborne, Evelyn, Rocco, and Rex. Henry also leaves his sister-in-law, Marilyn Davision (Richard), of Alden, NY; a niece, Sarah Pietrowski (Frank), of Akron, NY; great-niece and nephew Lilly and Nicholas Pietrowski; a nephew, Greg Davison (Georgene); two great nephews, Gavin and Geremy, of North Royalton, OH. Henry also leaves his niece, Angela (David Bright), of Little Falls NY; several nephews, including Alvaro Peruzzi (Michelle), of Little Falls, NY, Lorenzo Peruzzi, of Little Falls, NY, Renato Peruzzi, of Little Falls, NY; a great-nephew, Alex Peruzzi; and great nieces, Haley, McKenna, Janella Peruzzi and Alyssa Papaleo; and Godson, Zachary Bright. Henry was predeceased by his canine companion, Hercules and is survived by his feline family, Stripe, Pumpkin and Enrico. Henry enjoyed travelling, spending winters in Florida, and visiting casinos. Leslie and Henry enjoyed boating at their home on Honeoye Lake. He met his retired male friends every Wednesday for breakfast. He always felt that their friendships were the best medicine. Henry believed there were four seasons: winter, summer, spring, and football. Calling hours for Henry will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 4-6 p.m., at the Enea Family Funeral Home, on 24 West Monroe St., in Little Falls. A Celebratory Mass will take place in Little Falls, NY, at Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Sts, in Little Falls, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 13th, officiated by Fr. Brian Slezak. All are welcome to attend the calling hours and the Funeral Mass the following day. A luncheon will be held Wednesday, to be announced at the church.
