Obituary of Charles G. McHarg

NEW HARTFORD/SARATOGA SPRINGS - Charles G. McHarg, Jr., age 87, currently of New Hartford, NY and formerly of Saratoga Springs, NY, died peacefully, on February 18, 2022, after a 26 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on October 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Charles and Katherine (King) McHarg, Sr., of Mohawk, NY. Charles graduated from Ilion High School, Ilion, New York and then from Albany State University, Albany, New York, with a Bachelor’s of Secondary Education and Masters of Guidance Counseling and School Administration. His career was spent in education and he retired after 38 years. He was Principal of Saratoga Springs Junior High and Assistant Superintendent of schools when he retired. He was the Vice President Suburban Council Secondary Administrator, Regional Chairman for the New York State Secondary Administrators Association, a member of St. Clements Church, past President of the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, Liturgy of the Word Minister, President of the Saratoga Springs Lions Club and served on the Board for several years, Board Member of Saratoga Spring “Y”, member of the Salvation Army Board, Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, for 14 years-construction (Florida). He also belonged to the Boy Scouts of America, as a Vigil Honor member in the Order of the Arrow. Survivors include his four children, David McHarg (Julie), of Castorland, New York, Theresa Agel, of Chicago, Illinois, Kathleen Russo (Thomas), of Hudson, Ohio, and Michele Muller, of Hudson Falls, New York; his 10 grandchildren, Steven McHarg, Zachary Agel, Nicholas Agel, Brandon Russo (his fiancée, Emily), Kelsey Russo, Jacob Russo, Zoe Muller, Remy Muller, Marcellus Muller and Isabella Muller; his sister, Helen; and Brother-in-Law, Ben May, of Leesburgh, Florida. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris; his brother, John McHarg; and his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and James Venditte. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of the Annunciation, in Ilion, NY, officiated by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, in East Herkimer, where Charles’ earthly remains will be laid to rest.
