Recently, I was reflecting on my life and gratitude and Dr Plotnick came to mind immediately. He saved my life in 2008 by performing uterine surgery after a major post partum hemorrhage following my 1st child at BCH. I was inspired to write a letter to him after all these years expressing my deepest gratitude and I’m saddened to know that I’m too late. to tell him. I hope this story will reinforce to his closest family and friends just one example of his contribution and impact during his lifetime. He was a good person who did very important work.

Dr. Plotnick delivered my second child in 2017. I knew as soon as I met him that he was a complete weirdo. He seemed to always say exactly what he was thinking, which could make him seem like a sinner and a saint all in one sentence. When he did my C-section, he fixed an injury that resulted from my first childbirth. He didn't have to do it, but he cared about restoring my quality of life. He cured my years-long pain because he cared more about doing what was right over what was easy. He meant so much to me. He touched my life in such an indelible way that I don't know if I could ever thank him enough. He was nothing if not remarkable. I am so sorry to hear he has passed.

Dr Plotnick was a loving soul who supported me through infertility and delivered my 1st daughter Jessica in 1994. He was also a big support to me when my 2nd daughter 8 months later and was premature at 26 weeks. Both turned out fine. I worked in the same medical building with him and we shared our lunch breaks on a wooden picnic table many times. I think about him often and just saw his obituary. I am sure he will be missed by his family and all the women he helped through difficult times.

I met Dr Plotnick in Aug. of 2015- at St. Anthony North Hospital. My daughter, Claire Ferry was in labor with her 1st baby. I already felt as though I knew him because Claire (RN-Labor/Delivery) talked about him OFTEN-said he was awesome (personality & teaching)…she enjoyed working with him very much. I’m so thankful I got to meet him. I experienced his fabulous personality & zest for life in the short time I was around him.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Hold tight to the wonderful memories …Praying for God’s comfort & peace.

I met dr plotnik due to a burst cysts on my ovary that caused internal bleeding and nearly killed me…. all of the other doctors who saw me that night in the ER recommend a hysterectomy to save my life … but not dr plotnik…. he offered me a choice and asked if I wanted children…. I did and he said he couldn’t promise me anything but he would try to save my uterus…. he was successful. I was able to keep my uterus and promised should I ever get pregnant I would come to him.
2 years later almost to the day I contacted him to tell him I was pregnant and only trusted him with my care. I am in my 40s and I know older mommies have higher risks as well as my previous reproductive issues and cysts. since this may be my only chance I needed him.. he was patient, kind, reassuring, and so thorough to explain everything to me.
the night of my daughters delivery he knew something was wrong and opted for me to have a c section, his quick thinking saved her life and with out going into details also saved mine for the second time.
I truly have love for him and know me and my daughter wouldn’t be here with out him….. I am forever grateful for his compassion, calm and sunny approach and his love for others. to me and my family we will always see him as more then our doctor but as a beloved friend…. he will be greatly missed.
all my love to his children and family, and thank you for sharing his time on this earth with all of us who truly needed him.

I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. First and foremost I offer my condolences to the family. He was really an awesome guy and a truly amazing doctor. He was the only one that would actually listen to me and I was in the ER of the hospital he worked at more frequently than anyone should have to be. He talked me out of a procedure that would have taken my entire uterus 2 and a half years after he had to operate on me and remove a Fallopian tube and what would have been my husband and I's first baby. I didn't realize it then but I was truly in the best of hands. He really did know how to speak to people in a way which he was always understood, didn't matter how traumatic the situation, he knew how to point out the sun was still shinning and always knew how to make someone smile by cracking a joke. I'm going to miss his stories of his children, his watches and his bright contagious smile. Rest easy and in peace, Sir. Thank you for your kindness and understanding in one of the roughest patches of my life.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Plotnick’s passing. He helped my husband and I through a very difficult time in 2019 when we suffered a late term pregnancy loss followed by a chemical loss. He was determined that this wouldn’t be the end of our dreams of having a family. We saw him every month for about 6 months after that before eventually heading off to try IVF. We were successful with our first try at IVF and knew we wanted Dr Plotnick to be the one to deliver our son. We were so incredibly thankful that he was there to handle the delivery of our son in October 17, 2021. I had many complications and I don’t think I would have felt as safe if we had been with any other doctor. Myself and my baby are here because of him. I will never forget his sense of humor or pure honesty in all of our visits to him. He clearly had so much love for his family and spoke of his daughter often. I just wanted to leave one last thank you to him for all he did for my self, my husband and my son. You truely touched our lives. May he test in peace.

My heart broke when I heard the news about Dr. Plotnick. He delivered both of my baby girls via unexpected c-sections that came with complications. When I got pregnant with my 2nd daughter, I knew right away that I wanted him to be the one to deliver her. He made me feel so at ease and cared for. He said he would always remember my first delivery after the crazy experience we shared. He was incredibly kind, comforting, funny, caring, and reassuring. I will never ever forget the hug and the kiss on the cheek he gave me after my last c-section once it was finally all over. I am beyond grateful to have known him. He always felt more to us than just a doctor to my family. He will be incredibly missed and I will tell my girls about him when they get older. Our sincerest condolences to Dr. Plotnick’s family. Dr. Plotnick, I am saddened by this very unfortunate news. You took care of me through one of the most traumatic experiences of my life and you were one of the few doctors that I genuinely felt comfortable with during my pregnancy. You had brought comfort along with laughs along with knowledge to our room and I am forever grateful you kept me and my son well! I had hoped you’d deliver my future babies. I am both shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Plotnick's passing. I became a patient of his in 2020 after relocating from another state and had surgery with him in 2021, which was a life changing experience. As a practice administrator of a medical practice, and having been in the medical field for over 20 years, I was quickly impressed with everything about him when I met him and every encounter thereafter. He was a great asset to the medical community from a patient's perspective and I appreciated his care, his humor, his knowledge and skill. I am grateful to have had him as my doctor and surgeon and extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

I just found out about the loss of Dr. Plotnick. He comforted me after a miscarriage in 2020 and sat holding my hand crying with me. He then helped me stay determined to believe in my miracle baby I am carrying right now. He was the reason I went to my doctors office and I am deeply saddened he won’t be there to deliver my child. He was a one of a kind doctor and person who made his patients feel seen and heard. Taking as much time as needed to help and squeezing in appointments for his patients who needed urgent check-ins.

I heard about the passing of Dr. Plotnick today and I was so saddened by the news. I suffered a miscarriage last May. The baby was ectopic and I was terrified. He was the on call doctor at the hospital. He took time to personally come to my ultrasound, I’ve never had a doctor do that. He explained to me what he was seeing and sat with me and talked with me about all my fears and concerns. He found out I had a science background and he even brought me medical journals to read about the treatment he prescribed and a good scientific journal on the history of Ectopic pregnancies and how they used to treat them. He shared his knowledge and also his life. We learned about his kids while we were being treated by him and it was evident he loved his family. He was a wonderful doctor and a great friend in a time of need. He gave me hope for conceiving in the future and when I went to the doctor’s office today I was crushed he was gone. I will never forget his kindness, positivity and humor that helped me stay positive in an incredibly painful time in my life. To the family I am so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man and will be dearly missed.

I don't have the best words to express my sorrow over the loss of 'Plotnick'. He saved my daughter's life during a complicated pregnancy and I'm forever grateful for that. I got to know him as a doc for myself after that and was so impressed with his knowledge and happy attitude and excellent advice. We had laughs together and connected over our coming to CO from the East Coast. What a great smile he had, with twinkling eyes. I'm still in the stage of disbelief over this loss -- to his family and all his patients and friends. May his spirit soar and be at peace. I will keep him in my prayers and will make a donation in his name to the Leukemia Society.

To the family of Dr. Plotnick,
My husband and I send our condolences for this sudden loss. I thought it would be best if I shared an email I wrote to Dr. Plotnick shortly after he performed life-saving surgery on me in 2019.
Hello Dr. Plotnick,
I just wanted to formally write to say thank you for everything you did for me. I'm sorry this message took so long, with everything that happened it's taken me a while to get around to thank everyone. You truly saved my life and for that, I cannot thank you enough.
You not only helped me medically but were also so kind and attentive during the aftermath, which meant the world to me and my family. We had gone through such a horrible loss and having a Dr. like you made the burden a little easier to bear. I am so grateful I ended up in your hands and cannot thank you enough for all that you did for me and my family. My husband now refers to you as our saving angel and as tear-up writing this note I have to agree with him. The world is a better place with people like you as Dr.'s and I'm so lucky to have been in your care.
Thank you for everything,
Ashley Demshki & The Demshki Family
I hope this gives you comfort and peace knowing he was loved by so many and did so much good in this world. Dr. Plotnick will always remain in our hearts and I will forever be grateful to him.

I send my condolences for the sudden loss of your dear sweet family member. I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend Dr. Plotnick. He was such a great teacher to me in the OR during my clinical rotations at SANHC. I admired his tenacity for learning and his enthusiasm and care for each patient that we were helping. He had the best of stories to tell and had a wealth of knowledge on any given subject. I knew him as the on-call OB doc that would float down to the Emergency room with his entourage of students to watch television in the lounge and eat donuts while I was the unit clerk. He was so kind and made such an impact on my life! He will be greatly missed.

Dr. Plotnick was a phenomenal preceptor and doctor. I was with him at St Anthony’s OB in October of 2021. We bonded over our New York roots. He was extraordinarily compassionate with all his patients and also with me as I was going through some challenging personal circumstances at the time. I appreciated all that I learned from him medically but even more so in the way he made patients feel and built trust with them. I will miss him very much. I am praying for him and his entire family- I heard so much about them all from him, he loved them dearly.

Dr. Plotnick is one of the preceptors I will and have always remembered as such a huge influencer in my education journey. I have always highly recommended him to other students as a must have rotation. From the late night knocks on the call door for deliveries, to answering the phone as “Plotnick!,” to the comments of “how long can I go today before I need to change into scrubs,” he was someone who was adored by colleagues and patients. Dr. Plotnick is the reason why I practice medicine today in a caring and compassionate manner, because these are qualities he radiated each day. He was not only one of the biggest influencers in how I practice as a PA, but I know he was for 100s more as well. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

The Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program at the University of Colorado has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Dr. Plotnick over the past 15 years. He was truly one of our most beloved preceptors and his passion for teaching was boundless. One student commented in her preceptor evaluation: ""Dr. Plotnick is committed to practicing high quality medicine and serving the individual needs of his patients. He is personable and honest, winning the trust of those who come to see him; multiple patients told me that he was their favorite doctor at the practice, or that he was the only doctor they wanted to see during a difficult procedure or diagnosis. He is a compassionate provider and preceptor. On top of all this, he is deeply committed to educating and teaching his students. It is clear he enjoys teaching not only how to practice medicine, but how to think about it and promoting critical decision making. I feel very lucky to have worked with him!" We send our most sincere condolences to his family. We will miss him very much.

Michael was so full of life and made sure to enjoy the days he had by filling them with so many hobbies and interests, I could never keep up. I learned from him that there are many paths in life and to not worry so much about what society expects of you or what social norms are. I will cherish the memories I have of him, his antics, his collections, his insatiable appetite for information. I feel like he fit the experiences of three lifetimes of a normal person into his much too short time here on earth. I'm glad he lived like he did - a full life, but much too short. He was such a kind soul and I think that was perfectly reflected in his beautiful smile when he chose to really give you a good one. He was the kind of person you wanted on your side when things weren't going good. Many times I turned to him for advice over the years I knew him and he always made the time to make me feel I was important and that he cared. I will miss him dearly. To his family - please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. He left a void in the world and it will never be filled.
