Obituary of Robert N. Austin

ILION – Robert N. Austin, Jr., 73, formerly of Ilion, passed away unexpectedly, on August 13, 2021, in Conway, SC. He was born on July 16, 1948, in Little Falls, NY, the son of Robert Austin, Sr. and Mary Austin. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, during the Vietnam Conflict, 1966-1972. He was a proud Marine. Bob worked as a Truck Driver for many years, until his retirement. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, with whom he resided with, Heidi and Russell Pettengill, of Conway, SC; his son, Todd Austin and his wife, Michele, of Ilion and his son, William Goldstein and his partner, Jessica Bruce, of Dolgeville; his daughter, Connie Varieur and her husband, Shawn, of Cortland, NY; and his son, Richard Austin and his partner, Valerie, of Ilion; grandchildren, Sean (Amber), Joshua (Courtney), Julia and Katlyn Pettengill, Alexis, Todd, Jr., Paige Austin, Michael Goldstein, Gabriel (Adam), Marissa, Gavin and Madison Varieur; two great-granddaughters that he adored, McKenzie and Grayson (his little peanuts); his sisters, Jean Suiter, of NY, Grace McDonough, of TN and Dolores Austin and her husband, Larry, of FL; his brothers, John Austin and his wife, Vickie, of NY and Neil Austin; in-laws, Carol and Rob Gillette, of FL, Sharon and Glen McLaughlin, of SC, Donna and Doug Rockwell, of NY, Robert and Donna Adams, of NY and Gary Ray, of NY; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia Adams Austin; brother, Elmer Austin; two sisters, Evelyn Muzzy and Margaret Everson; brothers-in-law, Donald Suiter, Richard Brewer, Ken Putnam, Leon Everson; sister-in-law, Judy Ray; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Jean Laventure. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no scheduled calling hours. Friends and relatives are invited to a Graveside Celebration of Life Memorial Service, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021, at the Armory Hill Cemetery, entrance on Benedict Ave., Ilion.
