Obituary of Leona I Comes

 

ILION – Leona I. Comes, age 73, of Rockwell Dr., Ilion, passed away, peacefully, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, after a brief illness.

 

She was born on May 2, 1944, in Mohawk, the daughter of Gerald and Isabelle (Blair) Barrett and attended Mohawk schools.  At one time, she was married to Carl Cotton, Sr.  She later married Herbert Comes, who died several years ago.  Leona was employed at Allegro Shoe Co., Little Falls, NY.  She later was employed as a seamstress at Duofold Co., Ilion, for twelve years.  Most recently, she worked at Country Manor, Herkimer.  Leona was always there for her family.

 

Surviving family members include her children, Carl A. Cotton, Jr., of Ilion, Christine Mae Combs and her husband, Doug, of Ilion and Calvin Cotton and his wife, Laura, of Sterling Heights, Michigan; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Victoria Brewer, of Ilion, and Geraldine Valasek, of Herkimer; her brother, Arthur Barrett, of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

She was predeceased by her parents; grandson, Jonathan Combs; several sisters; and one brother.

 

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion, NY.

 

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor.
