Obituary of Samuel Scialdone

HERKIMER – Mr. Samuel “Sam” Scialdone, Sr., age 82, a native and lifelong resident of Herkimer, passed away on Thursday morning, December 28, 2017, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center.

Born on September 15, 1935, Samuel was the son of the late Samuel and Theresa (Lasorella) Scialdone. He was raised in Herkimer and received his education in local schools. On August 5, 1994, he was blessed to wed the former Rosann Paratore, and together they shared over twenty-three years of marriage.

In his working years, Sam was employed as a mechanic with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. He was very active within his community, where he was involved with the Glee Club, volunteered as a Fireman with the Herkimer Fire Department, and attended Catholic mass at Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a skilled handyman.

Sam is survived by his loving wife, Rosann; his children, Samuel Scialdone, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Forestport, Felecia Burchett and her husband, Howard of Phoenix, AZ, Mark Scialdone of Herkimer and Gina Massaro of Herkimer; always in his heart, was the memory of his son, James L. Scialdone, who passed away in 1991. He also leaves his grandchildren, Sammy D. Scialdone and his fiancé, Megan, Stefanie Scialdone and Shaun St. Onge, James Scialdone, Maxwell Scialdone, Brandon Scialdone, Megan Massaro and Michael Massaro; his great-grandchildren, Dylan and Cole; his brother and sister-in-law, John and MaryJane Scialdone of Delray Beach, FL; his sisters and brother-in-law, Marie Scialdone and Loretta and David Atkins, all of Herkimer; his in-laws, Salvatore “Beef” and Terri Paratore and Paul and Mel Paratore; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A very special thank you is extended to the caregivers and healthcare staff of Valley Health Services in Herkimer, for the kindness, compassion and love shown to Sam throughout his twenty years with them. You truly became his second family, and for that, we are forever grateful.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Sam’s calling hours, which will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the original Enea Family Funeral Home (formerly Holleran Funeral Service) 220 North Washington St., Herkimer, (315) 866-1011. Sam’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday at 7:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of calling hours, with Deacon Ron St. Marie officiating. Spring interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.

In lieu of floral arrangements, memorial donations can be made to the Herkimer Fire Department in Sam’s memory.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Sam’s funeral arrangements and supervision were pre-arranged and entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, funeral directors of the Enea Family Funeral Homes of the Mohawk Valley. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.
