Obituary of John Collins

Mr. John J. Collins, 72, formerly of Herkimer and most recently of Little Falls, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2003, in Folts Homes, where he was receiving wonderful care. He was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Troy, a son of the late William H. and Jessie (Start) Collins. He was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales School and Herkimer High School. He has resided in Little Falls since 1962. On July 14, 1962, John joined in marriage with the former Diana Coons in St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. The couple enjoyed a blessed and loving union of 41 years. John was a proud United State veteran protecting his country with the National Guard for 35 years. He was last employed as a shipping clerk for Little Falls Color Print, retiring at age 63. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Collins was an avid outdoorsman. He truly enjoyed the time he spent at his camp on Pleasant Lake. John enjoyed dancing with his wife and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his beloved wife, Diana; four brothers, James R. Collins and wife Darlene of Millers Mills, Charles Collins and wife Mary Ann of Herkimer, Richard Collins and wife Carol of Millers Mills and David Collins and wife Kay of Jordanville; two sisters, Ruth Whitaker of Governeur and Doris Miller and husband Richard of Herkimer; a sister-in-law, Gloria Peters of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and William Collins and a sister, Carol Ann Collins. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer. John's funeral with full military honors will commence at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, from the chapel of the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, Herkimer, with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, and the Rev. David Oertel, chaplain of Folts Homes, officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where John will be laid to rest.
