Obituary of C Baker

C. Dean Baker, 91, of 100 West Main Street, St. Johnsville, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2004, at his home. He was born February 23, 1912, in Beecher City, Ill., the son of the late Walter and Mary (Phillips) Baker and was educated in Beecher City schools. Dean had been a resident of St. Johnsville for over 56 years. He was married to the former Helen Kalafus on June 10, 1942. Mrs. Baker preceded him in death on December 23, 1989. Mr. Baker was a World War II Army veteran, enlisting on March 19, 1941, and was honorably discharged on November 23, 1948. While serving in the military, Dean proudly fought for his country during the D-day invasion. Dean was owner and operator of the Rickard-Baker Oil Company in Fort Plain until his retirement in 1978. An avid outdoorsman Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. In his leisure he enjoyed mechanical work, especially working on automobiles. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Black and husband, John, of Slingerlands; a son, Raymond D. Baker of Clifton Park; a grandson, Gregory Black of Gardner; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. Friends and relatives may call at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, on Sunday, January 4, from 2-4 p.m. Funeral services and spring burial at St. Johnsville Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to either the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or American Parkinson's Disease.
