Obituary of Prudence Laura

Prudence “Prudy” Laura, age 78, left this world peacefully on Wednesday evening, January 18, 2023, at the Foltsbrook Center in Herkimer. At the time of her passing she had the love and support of her devoted son at her side. Born on June 30, 1944, Prudy was the only child of the late James and Bessie (Aiello) Pelose. She was raised and educated locally and graduated from Frankfort High School. On November 5, 1977, Prudy was married to Mr. Emanuele “Manny” Laura at St. Anthony’s Church in Utica. Together they shared in a blessed and loving union of over thirteen years until Manny’s untimely passing on April 23, 1991. A piece of Prudy’s heart went with Manny that day and her family is comforted knowing the two are now united again in Heaven. As a woman who was never afraid to work, Prudy spent her career in retail, working throughout the years at JCPenney, Anderson-Little, Barbara Moss and lastly at Rite Aid in Frankfort where she could assist and socialize with her hometown friends. Prudy was a sociable, friendly and outgoing woman who could strike up a conversation with anyone. Her personable nature allowed her to make friends everywhere she went. Some of her favorite pastimes included trips to the casino and any dinner dates with her group of girlfriends! She was a woman of class who had a fashionable eye and there was never an occasion when she was not put together. Even through the tough times, she always had a smile on her face. Her Roman Catholic faith is what sustained her through the most trying times in her life and she believed in the power of prayer. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort where she served as a lector. Prudy’s memory will forever live on through her beloved family. She is survived by her son, Michael Altamuro and his wife, Diane, of Mahwah, NJ; her stepson, Joseph Laura and his wife, Stacie, of Chester, NY; and her daughter-in-law, Maria Altamuro of North Carolina. Forever in her heart was the memory of her beloved son, Paul Altamuro, who passed away on April 11, 2017. She also leaves her grandchildren, Michael Altamuro, Danielle Altamuro, AJ and Sarah Laura and Jake Laura; her sister-in-law, Nina Rumrill of Frankfort; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, special family members, neighbors and friends: “you know who you are!” Aside from her parents, husband and son, Prudy was predeceased by her stepdaughter, Jamie Carter and her in-laws, Anthony and Charlotte Laura and Bill Rumrill. A special thank you is extended to the nursing staff and caregivers at the Foltsbrook Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing for the care and compassion shown to Prudy throughout her stay there. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 10:00AM – 12:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Prudy’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday at 12:15PM from the funeral home and at 1:00PM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Spring interment will take place in the spring of 2023 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where Prudy will be laid to rest with her beloved, Manny.
