Obituary of Deanna Lee Sanders Mureness

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Deanna Lee Sanders Mureness, 80, of Canajoharie, fell asleep in death on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, surrounded by her family, at Bassett Medical Center, in Cooperstown. She was born on October 1, 1942, in Nelliston, New York, to the late Annabelle Spaulding and Bernard Emery Sanders and also raised by the late Margaret Friest Sanders. She was the eldest of four children and grew up in Freysbush and Fort Plain. She attended Hessville and Springfield schools and was employed as an operator for the General Telephone Company, in Canajoharie. After having children, herself, she opened her home to provide daycare for several children in the community. Through the years, she found joy in spending time with her family, cooking, crocheting, piecing together puzzles, playing cards, vacationing and singing and dancing. She frequently attended dances in Fort Plain where the ‘Happy Valley Gang’ band played. It was there where she met the love of her life, Howard Sanford Mureness. They were joined in marriage on September 30, 1961. Deanna was a dedicated Jehovah’s Witness for 49 years and shared her love and confidence in Bible promises with others. She was a loyal wife, mother, gramma, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, who offered unconditional love, kindness and heartfelt hugs to anyone in her presence. She often said she was triple blessed by having a family who cared about her dearly. She is survived by her five children: James Howard Mureness (Barbara), of Syracuse, Deborah Ann Crewell (Mark), of Canajoharie, Daniel Vincent Mureness (Kelly), of High Point, NC, Holly Lynne Folts (Rob) and Melissa Lee Skandera (Matt), of Palatine Bridge. She was blessed with what she called the joys of her life: fifteen grandchildren, who adored and admired her, Vincent, Sean, Jordan, Nicole, Zachary, Shayna, Cameron, Kyle, Amber, Aubrey, Sara, Caleb, Matt, Alexis and Brandon; twenty-one great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Gramma Dee; her “Lil Sis”, Linda (Warren) Sheckells; and brothers, Bernard (Debbi) Sanders and Kenneth (Rhonda) Sanders; an aunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she loved deeply. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and parents. Deanna would want to thank her ‘team of girls’: including her daughters; granddaughters; sister; her ‘second daughters’, Lydia and Naomi, who had a share in taking special care of her the past nine months; and to her ‘big brother”, Greg, for being kind and helpful. Deanna will be deeply missed by all who knew her, until we meet again. We love you forever….so long. Please join in remembering Deanna on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 165 W. Grand St., in Palatine Bridge, NY, with David Tarbox, officiating.
