Obituary of Ruthann Evans

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Ruthann Evans, age 63, who with her family moved to the St. Johnsville area in 1968, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on the Lord’s Day, Sunday morning, November 6, 2022. Her parents, Albert K. and Eva A. (Amy) Evans welcomed Ruthie into the world on December 28, 1958, in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Ruthie attended schools in Pennsylvania and in St. Johnsville and then went on to become a certified nurse’s aide. Her passing occurred with her beloved family at her side, at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She received tender loving care there and her transition from this life ironically occurred within the same unit that she cared for so many throughout the years. Ruthie was a popular staple in our community, always out and about and helping others, the most generous with her time and money. She was a faith filled member of the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church. We all remember her being so active in the St. Johnsville Community, working so hard, being up and down Main Street all day long, helping the elderly and with her mom and active with the St. Johnsville Fire Department, just like her dad. She was quite simply put a social butterfly and knew so many in the Village, up until she suffered a debilitating injury. Her deep rooted faith sustained her during this injury and her positive outlook allowed her to persevere. The accident did not hold her back. Ruthie, never tired of learning and education in the good of humanity, was always at the forefront for her livelihood. She did so much good for all of us and for others and her love for the New York Giants and her beautiful cat Bubbly was unending. It would be remiss for us not to smile during this most difficult time and fondly reflect upon the facts, especially that back in the day she loved to have a cold one! Ruthann is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eva Evans; her sisters, Janet Cornish and Karen Hogan; and her brothers, David Evans and Albert K. Evans, II. Left to cherish her memories are her siblings: Elizabeth Biechy, of Fonda, Cindy (Gary) Becker, of Fonda, Freida (George) Lyons, of St. Johnsville and James P. (Cheri) Evans, of Lasselsville; and numerous loving cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the St. Johnsville Fire Department and may be directly sent to 6 West Main Street, St. Johnsville, New York 13452. Envelopes will also be available at the Enea Family Funeral Home for this very special purpose. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 11:30 a.m., at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, in St. Johnsville, New York, with Rev. Martin Burrello, Pastor of the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church, officiating. Calling hours are on the same day, Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. At the conclusion of the Funeral Services, around noon, we will begin to bring Ruthie to her final resting place. Her pall bearers will place her casket upon a vehicle provided in her honor by the St. Johnsville Fire Department, 'the brush truck.' A procession will take place to West St. Johnsville Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her parents, with a final farewell offered at the cemetery by her friends from the Fire Department. All arrangements have been carefully planned with Enea, Ciaccia and Applegate Funeral Directors (518) 568-2300.
