Obituary of Celine M. Harrad

ILION – Mrs. Celine M. Harrad, age 94, a resident of the Jewish Home, of Central New York, passed away, on Friday evening, October 21, 2022, at that facility, 4101 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, New York. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful attentive care she received from the Inn at Menorah Park and especially the 2nd floor of the Jewish Home. The compassion extended during her final hours was most comforting. Born April 26, 1928, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, she attended schools there. Deep down, Celine was a true Mohawk Valley girl. We fondly remember her working career here, beginning at several area restaurants, such as Little Joe’s, the Empire Diner and the Prospect Hotel. She worked at General Electric as well, at one time and lastly worked the assembly line with MDS. Through the years she attended the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, New York. Mom was a fashionista, always hosting family and friends at her house for parties and this would especially occur around the holidays! Ironically, she loved to ride along with Doug on his Harley and travelled near and far in an elegant manner. Nearest and dearest to her were her family: especially her three children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. While fully Americanized, she always maintained her Canadian culture and citizenship. This was especially streamlined via her French-Canadian ties through nieces and nephews still residing in Canada today. We also fondly remember mom’s love of crafts, bowling and that of an avid BINGO player. She loved cruising, casinos and shopping. On November 16, 1968, Celine was united in marriage to Douglas Harrad and together they enjoyed living in Florida under the conditions of a happy retirement, until the passing of Doug, on May 16, 2004. Previously she was married to Kenneth Rowland and they had three children. Surviving are her children, Cheryl Wright, of Weedsport, New York, Ron Rowland and his wife, Rose, of Johnstown, New York and Christine Lane, of Syracuse, New York. She also will be missed by her grandchildren; great-grandchildren (especially loved as Nana); nieces; nephews; and friends, all of whom were so very special to her. Celine was blessed with an upbringing within an abundant family and is preceded in death by her parents and 14 siblings. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday evening, October 26, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, in Ilion, New York (Town of Frankfort), with Deacon Michael Carbone, officiating. There will be a time of calling hours at the funeral home on the evening of the 26th, prior to the Funeral Services, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. All are invited to attend her calling hours and Funeral Service to follow and the opportunity to donate to a charity of your choosing will be available at a special memorial donation desk at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the discretion and privacy of her family, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, with her beloved husband, Douglas. Celine’s family has been comforted with her complete prearranged wishes through her longtime family friends, Enea, Ciaccia and Applegate Funeral Directors (315) 894-8000. A very special memorial page has been established at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.
