Obituary of John (Jack) Lee Morton

MOHAWK - On Thursday, October 28, 2021, John (Jack) Lee Morton, passed away, in Reston Virginia, at the age of 74. Jack was born January 1, 1947, in Ilion NY, to Geraldine and Fredrick Morton. Jack graduated from Mohawk High School, class of ‘65’ and married Mary Elizabeth Bowers, on July 3, 1965, in Ilion NY. Together they raised a family in Mohawk NY. Jack was employed at Mohawk Data Sciences for 5 years, and then served as production control manager, at Mele Manufacturing, in Utica NY, for more than 30 years. He retired to Northern Virginia. Jack was a member of the Alexander Hose Co. No. 1, Mohawk Volunteer Fire Dept., the Mohawk Exempt Firemen’s Assn. and Sons of the American Legion Crowley-Barnum Post 125. While serving as a volunteer fireman, Jack participated in many fireman’s drill team competitions (Firematic racing), as a member of the Mohawk Renegades. Jack’s involvement with his children included coaching, Cub Scout leadership and fan and supporter at their school activities and music and athletic events. Throughout life, Jack visited, hunted, vacationed and, after retirement, summered at his family camp in Old Forge, NY. Jack is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Mary; infant son, John; and his brother and best friend, George. He is survived by his daughters, Anne and Christine; and sons, James, William and Brian. The family will hold a private Graveside Service, at St. Agnes Cemetery, where Jack will be interred with his wife of 49 years. The family wishes to thank the dedicated professionals at Inova Hospital, Reston Hospital Center and US Renal for the wonderful care Jack received as he fought numerous medical issues in recent years. Jack’s service arrangements are entrusted to his Family Funeral Director, Don Applegate, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location, at 102 West St., Ilion, NY.
