Obituary of John Arthur Wojdan

LITTLE FALLS – Mr. John Arthur Wojdan, age 74, a lifelong Little Falls resident, passed away, on Friday, May 27, 2022, in Utica, New York, with his loving family always by his side. He was born in Little Falls, a son to the late Rita (Dorey) and John F Wojdan, on February 27 1948. As a boy he attended St. Mary's Academy, played Little League Baseball and proudly started working for his hero 'Uncle Joe' McCarthy at his pharmacy when he was in the 8th grade. John worked for Valley Electric in Mohawk for 20 years, while there, he attended SUNY IT Utica/Rome for a BA in Health Services Management, Cum Laude. Woj was a regular at the Gorge View Lanes where he met Barbara Decker, his wife to be. They were married on June 14, 1980. Barbara delivered to them a son, John Thomas in 1982. Later when his father was taken ill with emphysema, John was inspired to go back to school enrolling in the MVCC Respiratory Care degree program at 45 years old. It was an arduous task balancing school, work and a family life. He graduated in 1992, and from there he would go on to work in Amsterdam, Little Falls Hospital and St. Elizabeth's. John regularly attended Mass at Holy Family Parish (St. Mary's Church), took part in the Men's Club Senior Citizens Christmas Parties, later working as a Eucharistic Minister and helping around church. He enjoyed spending time with Barbara at Nick's Lake in their canoe. He was an excellent golfer and lifetime fan of sports and live events including baseball, which took him many times to Cooperstown. He was thrilled to attend the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics and got a big kick out of volunteering at the Turning Stone pro golf tournaments. In retirement, John enjoyed being outside and always keeping busy, visiting with friends sharing stories and laughs, usually with goodies in hand. He was fascinated with space programs, especially the moon landing and he was also a great admirer of those who served in the military. Woj always spoke proudly of being born and bred in Little Falls and being happy to serve his community however he could. John loved and was loved by his family, his animals and his friends. John is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, John Thomas; sister, Gail Wojdan; and cousins, Don Bortniak and Forrest James Wojdan. If you would like to give in his memory, please feel free to do so in any way you wish. He would be happy with wherever you believe the help would be most needed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Streets, in Little Falls, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Brian Slezak, Pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, in East Herkimer, where Woj will be laid to rest. A luncheon will follow to be announced at the Mass. There are calling hours at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, New York, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, from 4-6 PM.
