Obituary of Betty Berg

Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Berg, age 96, a lifelong Utica area resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the MVHS St. Elizabeth Campus. Born in Utica on May 20, 1926, Betty was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary (Taylor) Sykes. She was raised and educated locally and was a high school graduate. Betty was a hard working woman and aside from her duties at home as wife and mother, she worked for thirteen years as the Head Timekeeper for the NY Central Railroad. In her spare time, she loved her trips to Turning Stone casino, as well as crocheting, knitting and antiquing. She also enjoyed the simple beauty of the Adirondacks and relished any time that she could spend in Old Forge, taking in the beauty of nature and surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Bernie Raab of Utica; her three grandchildren, Greg and Maryrose Raab, Kim and Nick Bonarrigo and Kristen Raab; her two great-granddaughters, Katie and Megan Raab; along with several nieces, special friend, Laury, and friends from the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Oriskany. Aside from her parents, Betty was predeceased by one brother, Elgar Sykes. In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services.
