Obituary of Jane T. Collins

FRANKFORT-CLINTON – Mrs. Jane T. Collins, 89, formerly of Frankfort and Clinton, New York, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, April 21, 2022, in Athens, Georgia, with the love and support of her family. Jane was born in Herkimer, New York, on March 19, 1933, to Leslie and Catherine (Brady) Thomas. She was one of seven children, having received her education at Herkimer schools, then worked for the telephone company, in Little Falls. She was united in marriage to James F. Collins, at St. Francis de Sales Church, in Herkimer, on September 5, 1955, a blessed union of 57 years marked by deep love and devotion. Together they raised seven children: Sheila Collins and partner, Ray Robinson, of Athens, Georgia, Kate Collins Jones, of Columbia, South Carolina, Eileen Petersen and husband, Jeff, of Burke, Virginia, Patrick Collins and partner, Raeann Warner, of Wilmington, Delaware, Daniel Collins, of West Seneca, New York and Kevin Collins and wife, Karen, of Clinton, New York. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son, Thomas H. Collins; her brothers, J. Brady Thomas and Francis X. Thomas; and sisters, Mary Mathers and Catherine Mclaughlin. She is also survived by her sisters: Rita Ewers, of Clinton and Anne Blasting, of Herkimer; her sister-in-law, Jane Gilmartin, of Ilion; and her grandchildren, Lauris Jones and wife, Jennifer, Daniel Jones and wife, Bridget, Ryan Collins and wife, Mally, Samantha Collins, Kate Collins, Emily Collins, Grace Collins, Lily Collins and Riley Petersen. Jane returned to work in the 1980’s and enjoyed a 25 year career at Catholic Charities, in Utica, where she took pride in serving clients and staff with care and compassion. Until 2019, she lived in Upstate New York, most recently at Brookdale, in Clinton, where she enjoyed friendship with residents and staff. In 2019, she moved to her daughter Kate’s home, in Columbia, South Carolina and more recently to assisted living, in Athens, Georgia, near her daughter, Sheila and received devoted care. She was a devout catholic and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles (St. Mary’s), in Frankfort, New York and more recently of St. Patrick – St. Anthony’s Parish, in Chadwicks, New York. Jane loved to keep in touch with family and friends and was an avid reader and Scrabble player and watched daily Mass and prayed for loved ones, near and far. Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at St. Patrick’s – St. Anthony’s Church, 3364 Oneida St., Chadwicks, NY., followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., next to her husband, Jim, at St. John’s Cemetery, Newport, NY.
