Obituary of William Dayton

ILION – William H. “Bill” Dayton, age 74, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the MVHS St. Luke’s Campus, after a brief illness. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 24, 1947, William was the son of the late Wilbur and Catherine (Brennan) Dayton. He was raised and spent most of his life in the Mohawk Valley, graduating from Mohawk High School. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Army, and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era. Bill was a very hardworking man who always held two jobs at one time; and was employed with various companies throughout the Mohawk Valley. He worked at MDS in Herkimer, at Remington Arms in Ilion, at Herkimer County Community College in the Maintenance Department and as the Property manager of Forge Hill Estates in Ilion for twenty years. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed time with his family and friends and was an avid automobile enthusiast. Bill is survived by his two ex-wives and friends, Donna Martin of Mohawk and Joyce Langdon-Colone of Herkimer; his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Tracy Dayton of Phoenix, AZ and Jason and Betty Jo Dayton of Herkimer; his step-children, Amy and Chris Clancy of Whitesboro, Joe and Laura Colone of Ilion and Adam and Sarah Colone of New Hartford; and his grandchildren, Collin Dayton of Herkimer, Alexis Hanford of Ilion, Jenna Jones of Utica, Anthony Colone of Ilion, Sophia Colone of Ilion, Madeline Cate Clancy of Whitesboro, Liam Clancy of Whitesboro and Lucia Colone of New Hartford. He also leaves his special friends, Danny and Karen Hughes of Frankfort, Kathy and Donny Schrader and family of Herkimer, Jim and Gail Smith and family of Herkimer, and Judy and Bob Michaud and family of Ilion. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Bill’s calling hours on Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2022, from 3:00PM – 5:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.
