Obituary of Harold Smith

FRANKFORT – Mr. Harold Smith, age 92, a longtime Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 23, 2021, at Little Falls Hospital. Born in Los Angeles, California on August 11, 1929, Harold was the son of the late George and Helen (Gibson) Smith. He was raised and educated in California. On September 8, 1950, Harold was wed to the former Helen LaRouche in Elmonte, California, and they shared in over seventy years of a blessed and loving union until Helen’s passing on January 12, 2021. A piece of Harold’s heart went with Helen when she passed and their family is comforted in the thought that the two are now together again. Harold proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received his honorable discharge in 1952. For many years he was employed as a bus driver with RCIL in Utica, a position from which he retired. Harold is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Tom Madaras of Cassville and Lynn and Tom Hocking of Frankfort; his sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Deborah Smith of West Frankfort and John and Jennifer Smith of Temecula, CA; always in his heart was the memory of his son, Glenn H. Smith, who passed away on March 17, 2020. He also leaves his eight grandchildren, Thomas and Heather Madaras, Chad and Jessica Madaras, Alan and Bianca Smith, Cheryl Smith and Chris, Samantha Smith and fiancé, Dustin Jake, Jack Smith, Amanda Hocking, Adam Hocking and Shawna Recore; his three great-grandchildren, Thomas Madaras, Lucas Madaras and Dexter Smith; his sisters, Berta, Daphine and Vida, all of California; his brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Gail Smith of California; his in-laws, Shirley and Richard Fredericks of Tenessee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Aside from his wife, Helen, and son, Glenn, Harold was predeceased by several siblings. In keeping with Harold’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. His family will honor and celebrate his life at a private time.
