Obituary of Arlen 'Jack' Tinkler

ILION – Mr. Arlen “Jack” Tinkler, age 80, of South Fifth Avenue, Ilion, New York, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at his home in Ilion. Born in Herkimer, New York, on September 10, 1941, Jack was the son of the late John and Ruth (Ottman) Tinkler. He attended schools in Mohawk and Herkimer. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having enlisted in the United States Navy from 1961 until 1965. He was stationed aboard the USS Ticonderoga having earned several medals and commendations. He was an avid fan of sprint cars as well as the New York Giants and the New York Rangers. On June 24, 1983, he married Judith Capes Bennett. Jack spent many years as a heavy equipment operator with the Herkimer County Highway Department, retiring in 2003. Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Judith; his stepson, Steven Bennett and his wife, Kaylan; his sister, Joan Schorer (Ron); his grandchildren, Gage Tinkler, Katie Bennett, USN and Gracie Bennett; and special grandchildren, Mikayla and Leah Combs, Ronnie Pizer and Steven Mallory; a niece, Beverly Timmons; nephews, Steve, Shane and Jason Korniat; and Jack’s best friend, George Price and his wife, Marilyn. He was predeceased by his son, Randy; his parents, John Tinkler and Ruth Lowell; his brother, Duane; and sisters, Yvonne and Diana. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 7:00 PM, at The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, in Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort), officiated by Zondra Coffin, Pastor of the East Schuyler Methodist Church. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Armory Hill Cemetery, in Ilion. Calling hours for family and friends are from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Monday evening, prior to the funeral prayers at the funeral home. Those wishing to remember Jack in a special way are asked to consider a donation in his memory to the Herkimer County Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407.
