Obituary of Richard L. Caldwell

SCHUYLER – Richard Larry “Hoss” Caldwell, age 74, formerly of Caldwell Road, a life time resident of the Town of Schuyler, died peacefully, on Friday, October 29, 2021, at the Masonic Care Community, Utica, where he was residing. Richard was born on October 20, 1947, in Ilion, the son of the late Maynard G. and Edna R. (Bradbury) Caldwell. He graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler High School, in 1966. At one time, he was married to Barbara L. DeCarolis, in 1971. Richard later married Bette Jo Hall, on November 9, 1974, at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. Mr. Caldwell was employed as a machinist, at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for over 25 years, retiring in 2006. He also worked hard on the family farm. Richard also was employed at Tioga Construction, Mohawk Container and Utica Auto Supply. He loved to bowl and was an active member of the Remington Arms Bowling League and several other bowling leagues. He liked bowling in the Lilac Bowling Tournament, in Rochester. Richard also enjoyed snowmobiling with his family. Surviving family members include his beloved wife, Bette Jo; his son, Richard W. Caldwell; his grandchildren, Kayla and Austin Caldwell; his brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence and Rose Caldwell, of Utica, Kenneth Caldwell, of Florida and George W. Caldwell; his sister, Ruth Beck, of Remsen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Stuart Strife, of Vermont and Mary and Thomas Lane, of Colonie; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Tanya Hall, of Utah, Dr. William Hall, of New Mexico and Michael and Judy Hall, of Frankfort; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother-in law, Wesley Beck; his brother, Maynard J.; sister-in- law, Deanne Caldwell; his sister, Dorothy Ward; his brother-in-law, Irv Ward, Sr.; his nephew, Irv Ward, Jr.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Catherine Hall. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 12 Noon to 1:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location, at 4309 Acme Rd. (old Main St.) between Ilion and Frankfort. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 3, 2021, immediately following visitation, at the funeral home.
