Obituary of Lucille DeAngelis

LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Lucille DeAngelis, age 98, who currently resided at Valley Residential Services and formerly of Hancock Street, in Little Falls, New York, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, July 23, 2021. Lucille was born in Utica, New York on December 11, 1922 and moved to Dolgeville, New York as a child. She was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Florence (Cerchiaro) Gigliotti. She was a graduate of Dolgeville Central School, ‘Class of 1940’ and later attended Herkimer County Community College. Lucille was last employed by the Little Falls Central School as a teacher’s aide. She enjoyed assisting the children in the reading and math programs at the school. On May 18, 1946, Lucille married Peter Anthony DeAngelis and together they received the sacrament of matrimony at a Nuptial Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Dolgeville, New York. This was the beginning of their promise to each other and they shared 72 years of happily married life. Peter died on January 6, 2019. Lucille had a very strong faith and the church was an important part of her life. For over forty years she joyfully shared her talents at St. Joseph’s Parish and Holy Family Parish. She was a certified Catechist and taught first Eucharist and Reconciliation classes to the children. Lucille, along with her husband Peter, were the first couple at St. Joseph’s Parish to serve as Eucharistic Ministers. Together they were involved within the Parish Renew Program as facilitators for faith – sharing groups and faith formation classes. Lucille enjoyed singing and was a member of the church choir and the Mohawk Valley Choral Society. Lucille was an excellent seamstress and for many years taught sewing classes for adult education at Little Falls School. With three girls, she sewed for all occasions and taught them to sew as well. After raising their three daughters, Lucille and Peter enjoyed traveling to Jerusalem and the Holy Land, Fatima, Portugal; Lourdes, France; Medjugorje, Yugoslavia; and Rome, Italy, where they were blessed by the presence of Pope St. John Paul, II. In addition, they enjoyed many winters in the Florida sunshine. In addition to her husband, Lucille was predeceased by four sisters: baby Helen Gigliotti, Mary Gigliotti Izzo (Albert), Louise Gigliotti Buccafurno (Felix), Antoinette (Nettie) Sanita (Mark), and three brothers: Bernard (Bertha and Mary), Fiore (Nora), and Richard (Esther). Lucille was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family dearly. She was a wonderful wife and mother and she will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lorraine DeAngelis, (Richfield Springs, NY), Valerie Bly and her husband, David, (Ormond Beach, FL), Patrice DeAngelis and her husband, Randy Grolemund, (Webster, NY); grandchildren, Courtney Titus and partner, Phil Pritcherd, Joshua Grippe and his wife, Tracey; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Titus and fiancé, Spencer Moorehouse and Joseph Titus and his wife, Monica and son Jasper; sisters-in-law, Mary Gigliotti and Lena Liscio; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 10:30 AM, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, in Little Falls, NY and at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main & John Streets, Little Falls, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Brian Slezak, Pastor. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Calling hours, a gathering for family and friends, are Thursday morning, prior to the funeral prayers at the funeral home, 9:00 until 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours as well as the funeral Mass and interment service. Those wishing to remember Lucille in a special way are asked to consider a donation in her memory to the Holy Family Parish Church, 763 E. Main St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes for this opportunity will be available at the funeral home. The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Valley Residential Services for their kindness and special care given to Lucille over the past five years.
