Obituary of Linda H. Van Delinder

HERKIMER – Linda H. Van Delinder, 70, passed away on Friday April 13, 2018. She was born April 3, 1948 in Waterbury, Connecticut, daughter of the late Harold H. Hefner, Sr. and Gladys (Wedemeyer) Hefner. She was a resident of the Mohawk Valley for her entire life. She graduated from Mohawk Central School (1966) and received a paralegal degree in 1981. She married Carl A. Van Delinder on September 8, 1984 by the Honorable John W. Bergin, Herkimer County Judge and Surrogate. They shared a blessed union of 18 years until his passing on February 12, 2002. She was formerly married to Charles A. Kotary, Jr. and two children were born of this marriage, Jeffrey D. Kotary and Jon Adam Kotary. Linda was the confidential secretary to Honorable John W. Bergin for 17 years and then was employed by Herkimer County Family Court, retiring in 2005.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Barbara) Kotary of Little Falls, and Jon Adam (Danielle) Kotary of Mohawk. Three Grandchildren, Jacob Kotary, Karlee (Brian) Dunn and Sara Kotary and a great-granddaughter, Finlee Shae Dunn. She is also survived by a special uncle Donald Wedemeyer and Aunt Jan and Uncle Dick Normand and several other aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl; brother, Harold Hefner, Jr., and sister, Lorine Marmet; grandson, Athens Adam Kotary; and former husband Charles A. Kotary, Jr.

Linda leaves many dear friends who were also her caregivers in so many ways. Namely, Tracey and Anthony Macri, Lorraine and Bob Hartigan; Mary Bass, Donna Angelichio, Barb Maas, Ramona Raux, Tracy, Debbie, & Marilyn; Jean and John Slopnick and Rosie Brown. I love you all.

Linda was a life member of the Herkimer Polish Community Home; Ilion Elk’s Lodge #1444 and life member of the Herkimer VFW Ladies Auxiliary #4915 and Herkimer American Legion Auxiliary #38.

There will be no calling hours and the funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY. Donations in memory of Linda may be considered to either St. Jude’s or to DAV.
