Obituary of Angela M. Bingham

HERKIMER – Mrs. Angela M. Bingham, age 80, a lifelong resident of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Heritage Health Care Center in Utica with the love and support of her family at her bedside.

Born in Herkimer on May 29, 1937, Angela was the daughter of the late Antonio and Lillian (Annutto) Morra.   Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the Class of 1955. She continued her education at SUNY Cobleskill, graduating in 1957 with an associate’s degree in Nursery Education.

On September 27, 1958, Angela was united in marriage to Edward “Ned” Bingham in St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer by the Rev. Gustave Purficato.  There were three children born of this blessed union; Bryon E. Bingham, Lynn M. Bingham and Lisa M. Bingham. Angela and Ned were committed to one another and to raising their family together, and shared in over 59 years of a faithful and devoted marriage.

Angela was employed for many years with the In and Out Shop in Herkimer, and with Hummel’s gift shop. She took a position with the Town of Herkimer in the Assessor’s Office in 1998, and soon became known as the “STAR” lady, before her retirement in 2008.

As a woman devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, Angela was a member of both Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church and St. Francis de Sales Church, and attending mass, especially during lent, was a must.

Angela was graced with a humble, kind and very outgoing personality, which allowed her to work a room and make many close and lasting friendships. She was a gracious host, who was always willing to open her home and cooking and entertaining were the ultimate joy of her days; especially on holidays. Time with her family and friends was of the utmost importance, whether she was attending her grandchildren’s sporting events or playing cards with friends. As a worldly woman, she loved to travel with her husband and with her friends, not only throughout the United States, but also to the Caribbean and Europe.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Ned; her son, Bryon and Robin (Brothers) Bingham of Ballston Spa; her daughters, Lynn and Joe Beaulieu of Jamesville, and Lisa and John Carswell of Herkimer; her cherished grandchildren, Chelsea and Jon Bingham, Jessica and Samantha Carswell, Christopher and Joelle Beaulieu; and her great-grandchildren, Leigha and Kyle “Bubby” Waldron.   She also leaves behind her sisters, Concetta and husband, Jim Aiello and Patricia Volo, all of Herkimer; nieces and nephews, Jonna and Ray LaMarco, Jamie Aiello, Sandra and Mario Stagliano, Benjamin Morra, Gregory and Vinnie Caliguire, Morra Volo, Debby Morra, Candice and Bill Potter, and Dr. Joseph and Maria Morra; her sister-in-law, Betsy Guertin of Metuchen, NJ and many nieces and nephews throughout the country.

Angela was predeceased by her brothers, Benjamin Morra, (KIA WWII, Saipan, 1945), Rocco Morra, and Joseph Morra and her sister, Rose Caliguire.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation for Angela on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the original Enea Family Funeral Home (FKA Holleran Funeral Service) 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011.  Her funeral service will commence on Saturday, October 14, 2017 beginning at 9:45AM from the funeral home and at 10:30AM at St. Francis de Sales Church on North Bellinger Street, Herkimer, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Father Mark Cunningham, Pastor.  Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where she will be laid to rest.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
