Obituary of Robert M. Entwistle, Sr.

LITCHFIELD - Robert M. Entwistle, Sr., age 89, of Birdseye Road, LItchfield, passed away with peace and grace on Friday, September 29, 2017, at home, with his loving family by his side.

He was born on January 28, 1928, in Utica, the son of George W. and Florence (Flynn) Entwistle.  Robert graduated from the Annunciation School, Ilion and Frankfort High School in 1944.  He was married to Alma M. Quesnel on May 22, 1948, at St. Joseph's Church in West Winfield, a blessed marriage of over 69 years.

Robert was a lifelong dairy farmer.  After working on his father's dairy farm, he started his own farm in 1952.  Through his hard work, drive, and love of farming, he built a successful family business.  He passed on his love of farming and work ethic onto his sons, who continue the family business today.

Robert was involved in both his church and his community. He was a devout believer in the Roman Catholic Faith and a member of Our Lady Queen of  Apostles Church.  He proudly served on many parish councils.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Ilion and enjoyed bowling in the Knights bowling league for a number of years. Robert was a member of the Litchfield Town Board for 24 years and served on many agricultural committees throughout his adult life.

He is survived by his adoring wife, Alma, and his ever-growing family, which began with 10 children and their spouses:  Mike Albin, Mary and Thomas Bentley, Robert Jr. and Janice Entwistle, Susan and Randy Sanders, Steven Entwistle, Margaret and Jack Bielby, Joseph and Sandra Entwistle, Jane and Douglas Flanagan, and James and Beth Entwistle.   He leaves 35 grandchildren who all loved and admired him.  Adrienne, Megan, Kim, Jennifer, Thomas, Robert, Colleen, Matthew, Joann, Melissa, Rebecca, Daryl, Bridgette, Amy, Rachel, Steven, Alexis, Stacey, Steven, Trevor, Eric, Samantha, Emily, Jeremy, Allison, Sydney, Kelly, Keith, Chris, Katie, Chelsea, NIcholas, Lauren, Sara and Robert will miss him greatly.  He also leaves behind 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  Robert was blessed with his extended family, including his sisters-in-law Rita, Dorothy and Evelyn Entwistle, and Nancy Hart, as well as dear cousins.  "Uncle Bob" cherished his nieces and nephews and loved them as much as he loved his own children.

Robert was predeceased by his beloved children, Denise Albin and John Entwistle, and his brothers George, Dennis and Thomas Entwistle.

Calling hours will be held on held on Monday, October 2, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's larger facility at 4309 Acme Road (old Main Street) between Ilion and Frankfort (315-895-7722).
