Obituary of Dorothy H. Caulkins

ILION – Mrs. Dorothy H. Caulkins, age 91, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, late Tuesday evening, September 26, 2017, at the Alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Little Falls.

 

Dorothy was born on the 150th anniversary of our great nation, July 4, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Walter G. and Helen (Thompson) Wheeler. She was raised and educated in Ilion and upon her graduation from high school, attended Cortland State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She spent her career of over forty years as an elementary school teacher with the Ilion School District, prior to her retirement in 1988.

 

She was first wed to Mr. Elmer D. Myers, and together they started a family with the birth of their two sons, until Mr. Myers untimely passing in 1965. Her second marriage took place on July 26, 1969, when she wed Mr. Richard E. “Dick” Caulkins, and together they shared in a blessed and devoted union of over 41 years until Dick’s passing on January 23, 2011.

 

As a well-rounded woman, Dorothy enjoyed various activities, from her involvement in bowling leagues, to her enjoyment of family and friends around a nice fire at camp. She also had a love for Big Band music and was a member of the Ilion Elks Lodge.

 

She leaves behind her sons, Edmund D. Myers and Karen Randall and Kerry L. Myers and Lisa Lucas-Myers, all of Ilion; her grandchildren, Amanda and Chris DePaolo, Melissa and Tim Boepple, Meagan Strack, Kaitlin Myers and Lauren Myers; and her adored great-grandchildren, Kailynn, Aleigha, Brady, Hadley and Peyton. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

 

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Dorothy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning, September 30, 2017 at 10:00AM at the funeral home, with The Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia officiating. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery, where Dorothy’s earthly remains will be laid to rest.
